Speedos Regaining Popularity In UK
British beaches could once again boast the spectacle of thousands of men in their Speedos as the tight-fitting swimwear appears to be on its way back. There has been a 400 per cent increase in the number of searches on the internet for the skimpy trunks in the past half year, compared to the same period the previous year, according to price comparison website Ciao. The skimpy look could be popular among women as well as men this summer according to the findings, which revealed that searches for bikinis on the internet are also up 100 per cent on 2009. Based on more than 6,000 internet searches, the research suggested that, perhaps because of the dismal winter, self-tanning products were also in demand. Brands such as Fake Bake, St Tropez and l'Oreal have proven popular in recent years. Ciao UK said there was an increase of five per cent in fake tanning searches in the past year. Tom Hyde, of Microsoft-owned Ciao, said: "Everyone wants to look their best on the beach and clearly Brits have never been prouder to get their kit off. "People are buffing themselves up so they are tanned and smooth from top to toe and are celebrating by looking for the tightest, tiniest and most revealing swimwear out there."
