How To: Summer Haircare

The Baywatch girls always had their loose flowing locks blowing in the wind behind them, and no one quite does wet beach hair quite like a Bond girl, so we all know that the key to uber beach babe style is effortless, healthy looking hair. But how can it be done? We've put together a few of our top tips for getting those perfect summer tresses!

Prep

Before you get out in the sun it's always best to take some preventative care action for your hair. UV rays can be very damaging to your head and scalp so it's best to be prepared. One of the top ways is to wear a hat. Not only does this protect your scalp and hair, it also can keep the sun off your face, neck and ears depending on how wide brimmed a hat you choose. Any extra protection you can get from the sun is a big bonus so pick yourself up a new hat now. There are also UV sprays you can buy specifically for your hair and scalp. Much like suncream but a quick spray mist does the job, no one really wants to be rubbing greasy sun lotion into their hair now do they. If you are going out in the sun, try to avoid midday. The sun's rays are the strongest between 11am and 3pm so make sure you aren't out unprotected between these hours.

Styles

Another thing to consider is what style to have your hair in. These are a few of our favourite poolside options;

- Slicked back ponytail - super chic, keeps your hair out of your way, and no partings means less chance of burning that scalp.

- Slouchy top knot - just twist your hair into a bun, secure it with an elastic hair band and you're good to go. The quickest way to keep your hair out of your way and still have that beachy vibe.

- Plaits - one or two, loose or french, there's so many plait options to rock at the beach. This one is a great way to keep your hair out of your way and make it look as though you've made a little more effort.

-Beachy waves - the ultimate effortless beach babe choice. Sleep with a plait or bun in your hair and in the morning undo it and let those heat free waves loose

    Aftercare

    After spending a lot of time in the sun and hopping in and out of the pool your hair can get quite damaged. This is when the haircare treatments need to come into play. Start by using shampoos and conditioners that are specifically for dry/damaged hair. It's also a great idea to use an intense moisturising hair mask once a week to maximise getting that moisture back into your hair. Each different product will have usage instructions on the bottle/tub but most of them are to be used after your normal shampoo routine and are best to be left on for 10-20 minutes. Once a month give you hair an intense shot of moisturising goodness by wrapping your hair in a towel and sleeping overnight in a hair mask, you could even use coconut oil for this. As you know we love a bit of coconut oil here at Simply Beach!
