Gottex was founded in 1956 by Hungarian designer Lea Gottlieb. Having moved to Haifa, Israel after the 2nd World War, the seamstress began making raincoats, but soon discovered that the sun shone more than it rained in Israel and she quickly altered her designs and production to make swimsuits which suited the climate much better. Gottex was founded in 1956 by Hungarian designer Lea Gottlieb. Having moved to Haifa, Israel after the 2nd World War, the seamstress began making raincoats, but soon discovered that the sun shone more than it rained in Israel and she quickly altered her designs and production to make swimsuits which suited the climate much better. She made the garments on a sewing machine in her apartment, but what started out small quickly grew into a world famous brand.
Inspired by flowers and bright colours, Gottlieb designed bold, vibrant prints and striking silhouettes that perfectly suited the beaches of Tel Aviv. Very quickly the Gottex brand became synonymous with head turning, high-end luxury swimwear with a celebrity following including Princess Diana, Spain’s Queen Sofia and Elizabeth Taylor.
Today, under new ownership, the Gottex brand is still a go-to brand for women who want great fitting, elegant yet fun swimwear.
